About Me
Just as students are often asked to write an essay about themselves I felt that since many of you may not know me I should introduce myself.
My name is Arlene Anderson. I am "Ms.", not Mrs, and have no problem with students calling me Ms. A, if they prefer. I was born on the east coast in Pennsylvania and grew up there most of my youth. We moved to California when I was in high school and I graduated from U.S. Grant High School in the San Fernando Valley.
I attended San Diego State and later moved to Sacramento where I finished my teaching degree at Sac State. I have a Bachelor's in Child Development, a Master's in Education from Cal State Northridge, a CLAD credential (English Language Learners), a GATE certificate, and am a certified Technology trainer and leader under California Technology Assistance Program.
My teaching career began 14 years ago in Sacramento. I started at Skyblue Mesa 13 years ago teaching first grade, and Skyblue has always been my home, even when I was not directly in the classroom. Over the years I have taught first, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades.
I have attended multiple Educational Technology conferences during the past 8 years and have been a presenter at most of them showing teachers how to integrate technology into their teaching and student learning. Over the last 2 years, I have been the Program Coordinator and teacher trainer for the Saugus Union School District in the SWATTEC (Student Writing Achievement through Technology Enhanced Collaboration) grant program which brought our fourth grade students each a netbook to use in the classroom. While textbooks provide a significant resource for learning, I think that having the Internet and vast resources available today as something to expand upon the strengths of each students' learning process.
I am a lifelong learner.
